Answers

  1. Where do campers come from?

    Currently, campers must reside in San Luis Obispo County or Santa Barbara County.

  2. What is the ratio of staff to campers?

    The ratio of staff to campers is 1 to 6. All our staff members are older than 18 years of age.

  3. What should we bring to camp?
    • Underwear for at least two weeks
    • White socks
    • Tooth brush (Toothpaste and other personal hygiene items will be provided.)
    • Comb and brush
    • Leisure clothes for at least five days (shirts, jeans, shorts, etc.)
    • Comfortable shoes (tennis shoes & boots)
    • Closed toe shoes – a must if you want to go for a bike ride or a hike!
    • Sleeping bag
    • Pillow
    • A musical instrument to entertain others may be acceptable. Please check with COY staff, first.
    • Bring a great attitude and be prepared to learn and have fun!
  4. What should my child NOT bring?

    Campers may NOT bring any of the following items to camp: cell phones, lap tops, radios, TV’s, gaming systems, CD/MP3 players, any electronic devices, candy, gum, knives, cigarettes/tobacco, drugs, alcohol, fireworks, or firearms. C.O.Y. staff reserves the right to confiscate any inappropriate items/contraband; they will be returned to camper’s parents upon departure or to the camper when camp ends.

    Please DO NOT bring valuable items, including money. Op C.O.Y. is not responsible for the loss of any personal items during camp. Please leave all valuables at home.

  5. What time do we check-in?

    Check-in is at 1:30 PM on July 17, 2016.

  6. What are the sleeping quarters like?

    Campers will sleep in an open dormitory setting. A staff member will chaperone campers overnight.

  7. Does my child have to be an athlete or have participated in a sport?

    No, your child does not have to be an athlete or have prior experience as an athlete.

  8. Will my child be able to come and go, freely?

    No, your child will always be supervised by our staff, 24/7. All off-site outings will be supervised by our staff.

  9. Can we visit the camp?

    Since the camp is only three weeks in length and the campers will follow a very active schedule, you will not be able to visit until the Graduation Ceremony on August 6th. Details regarding this event will be emailed to you.

  10. Can I call my camper during the week?

    We are working on arrangements for Campers to receive phone calls during designated hours once a week. These will be determined prior to the start of camp.

  11. Are there any medical facilities on site?

    All of our staff have a working knowledge of first aid and how to treat basic sporting injuries. Granite Ridge Camp has an Infirmary that is staffed at all times. Also, a Cal Fire Station is approximately one mile from the camp and will respond to medical emergencies as needed.

  12. Does the facility have a swimming pool?

    Yes, there is a pool and a pond on the premises. When we schedule swimming or any water activities, a Licensed Lifeguard will be on duty.
